Eir the Norse Goddess is full of mystery, she was briefly mentioned in the Poetic Edda and Prose Edda, with the latter stating that she is an extremely good physician. Her enigmatic identity has led to many assumptions, including her connection to the power of healing, her duty as one of the handmaidens of Mengloth, or her role as a Valkyrie that possibly decides who lives rather than dies on the battlefield. Although we may never truly uncover Eir’s identity due to the lack of historical documents, many assume that she is a stand-in for the Norse Goddess Frigg, and it is entirely possible that Eir is a combination of European healer goddesses from that time period.
