More About Bronze

What is cold cast Bronze?

Cold cast items are solid figurines made using a relatively new technique involving resin and bronze powder. It is more popular these days due to the greater level of detail allowed and the more manageable weight (a 10kg bronze figurine would be about 3-4kg in solid cold cast). It also allows for a more affordable retail end product, and so bronze figurines are not just limited to the most wealthy. Resin can combined with other materials for similar effects e.g. granite.

What is Foundry Bronze?

These figurines are made from bronze metal. Many of our figurines are made using the traditional "lost wax" process. This method allows the capture and reproduction of the original sculpture in all its detail and beauty. Then to enhance the piece, a patina can be added. The end result is a heavy ornament that will last the test of time and can be passed down from generation to generation.

Why is Bronze so popular for Statues and Figurines?

It's an excellent choice due to its strength, durability and for the lustrous polish. Also great for the fine details allowed in sculpture.

What's the best way to ensure my bronze sculpture stays in top condition?

On the odd occasion it's beneficial to polish the piece with a soft cloth and a wax based furniture polish. Do not use abrasive materials or polishes.

"My Discobolus arrived safely today, well packaged and protected and very promptly. Many thanks for letting me know it was available again. I'm really pleased with it, in fact it's excellent! As I said earlier, I've been looking for one for many years and hadn't found a decent one I could afford. This one is superb. Many versions just don't look right and quite a few seem to be copied from the one in the British Museum, which has the head in the wrong position. HIGHLY DELIGHTED!!"
