Freya is the goddess of love, magic, fertility, and material possessions in Norse mythology. Due to the shared characteristic of Freya and Frigg, many believe that they are practically the same persona derived from an earlier, proto-germanic goddess, Frija. The word for “Friday” is named after Frija, just as the word “Wednesday” is named after Woden, the old name for Odin.
