Sparta, an ancient Greek city-state, had an uniquely pure and idealistic social system where its citizens lived and trained for military excellence. The Hoplite, as the warriors are called, wore protective leg greaves, helmets, and carried large shields. The spear men fought in a square Phalanx formation; Xipho, the leaf shaped sword was used for close combat.
